Melinda Montgomery-Jones is a dedicated Postpartum and Sibling Doula with a background in perinatal health. She has been a postpartum doula for over two years. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As a graduate student, her background in health disparities pushed her into a passion for maternal and paternal mental health.
It has also enriched her understanding of how support is essential to the family dynamic. As a postpartum doula, she helps support moms and families emotionally and physically by providing education on postpartum care, basic infant care, soothing techniques, and breastfeeding support. Additionally, she provides mental wellness education and assessments for mom and partner, performs light cleaning duties, and helps the family organize to support mom and baby as the family gains greater awareness of their new roles as parents or growing families.
As a sibling doula, her role is to support the family by providing emotional and physical support to older children during a parent’s labor, birth, and immediate postpartum period. Helping older children understand the birth process, manage emotions, and bond with the new baby are some of the ways she assists families and helps them thrive during a crucial period in their lives. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, listening to jazz music, coloring, and spending time in nature.
