Touch and Tone Classes
Prenatal Yoga
Details:
Prenatal yoga is a specialized yoga practice designed solely for pregnant bodies. Unlike a regular yoga class that simply offers modifications, prenatal yoga is built from the ground up to support the rapid physical and emotional changes of pregnancy.
It combines gentle, active stretching with breathwork and meditation to prepare the mind and body for labor, birth, and parenthood.
What is it for?
It is generally safe for expectant parents in all trimesters (with a healthcare provider’s approval), regardless of previous yoga experience. It is highly recommended for beginners.
Course Topics
- Targeted Stretching: Poses are specifically chosen to alleviate common pregnancy discomforts like lower back pain, tight hips, sciatica, and swelling.
- Labor Preparation: Expect specific movements (like hip openers and squats) that strengthen the pelvic floor and position the baby for birth.
- Breathwork (Pranayama): You will learn breathing techniques to manage shortness of breath during pregnancy and to work through contractions during labor.
- Props: Classes rely heavily on bolsters, blocks, and blankets to accommodate a growing belly and a shifting center of gravity.
- Community: These classes often serve as a support group, allowing you to connect with other expectant parents.
