Breastfeeding Support at Momease with The Breastfeeding Center

Benefits of Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding Support at Momease

Momease is proud to partner with The Breastfeeding Center to offer in-office lactation consultations at our Alexandria location! Whether you’re just beginning your breastfeeding journey or navigating challenges along the way, expert support is now available every Tuesday with Gina Boling, IBCLC and Clinical Director of The Breastfeeding Center.

Appointments are covered by most major insurance plans and can be scheduled directly through The Breastfeeding Center

About Breastfeeding

Our classes focus on breastfeeding. Before attending one of these seminars, we encourage you to read some of the advantages this has for newborns:

  1. Breastfed Babies Smell Better: The stools of a breastfed infant emit a less offensive odor compared to stools that contain baby formula. This is especially important when changing a diaper. Since you or the caregiver is less likely to have a disgusted expression, it aids in building a baby’s self-esteem.
  2. It Aids in Maintaining Healthy Skin: By and large, breastfed babies develop smoother skin than their formula-fed counterparts. Pediatricians notice that when a baby is breastfed, their body composition is more solid. A formula-fed child tends to develop rough or dry patches of skin, which can be signs of rashes or irritation.
  3. Breastfeeding Aids in Physical and Mental Development: DHA is a chemical that is critical in the development of a baby’s retina. Breast milk contains more DHA than formula. As a result, a breastfed baby will have more advanced visual acuity, leading to stronger vision.

Top 10 Reasons to Schedule a Lactation Consultation

  1. Painful Nursing: If breastfeeding hurts, help is available! An IBCLC can assess latch, positioning, and potential causes of discomfort.
  2. Baby Not Gaining Weight: If weight gain is a concern, a lactation consultant can help troubleshoot feeding challenges.
  3. Oversupply or Forceful Letdown: Managing too much milk can be just as tricky as too little—get expert guidance to find balance.
  4. Low Milk Supply: Concerned about how much milk your baby is getting? We can assess and offer strategies to support a healthy supply.
  5. Tongue or Lip Tie Concerns: An IBCLC can assess for ties that may impact feeding and provide recommendations for next steps.
  6. Pump Questions & Flange Fittings: Make pumping more effective and comfortable with expert advice on sizing, schedules, and milk storage.
  7. Going Back to Work: Plan a pumping routine, build a freezer stash, and learn how to navigate breastfeeding while working.
  8. Weaning Guidance: Whether you’re ready to stop breastfeeding or just want to night wean, we provide gentle, informed strategies.
  9. Introducing Bottles or Starting Solids: Learn how to introduce bottles, transition to solids, and maintain breastfeeding along the way.
  10. General Peace of Mind: Whether things are going great or you just want reassurance, a lactation visit can boost your confidence!

Breastfeeding should be a rewarding experience for both you and your baby. If you need support, we’re here to help!
